Our Philosophy
RDS uses the Deaf-centric approach in everything we do in designing, developing and delivering resources. What does Deaf-centric mean?
It integrates the cultural and linguistic perspectives, preferences and needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. Being Deaf or Hard of Hearing is much more than a medical diagnosis and our services acknowledge that. All resources we develop are designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing by Deaf and Hard of Hearing people.
Why is this important? Designing Deaf-centric resources means our language and culture are included as as an integral part of the content, not added on as an accessibility feature. Deaf and Hard of Hearing people see and access the world differently. Having materials developed with a Deaf-centric approach in mind makes for a more meaningful impact and inclusive connection.
Deaf-friendly resources are also accessible to all, and everyone wins!
